Ski &Snow Reports - April 15, 2008 - In Europe, the ski season continues at the higher resorts. The Sportgastein area (Bad Gastein, 0/450cm) has a thick snow base on the upper slopes which was freshened over the weekend. At Kaprun (191/294cm), the best skiing is on the glacier with cold temperatures keeping the snow in good shape. The Stubai Glacier at Neustift (60/250cm) received another 10cm of fresh snow on Saturday, adding a light layer of powder. The Arlberg resorts of Lech (135/430cm), Zurs (135/430cm) and St Anton (5/355cm) still offer skiing across most of the mountain terrain with 75% of their lifts running on Monday.
Alpe D'Huez (143/260cm) is forecasting new snow down to 1250m which will improve even the lower elevations. At Avoriaz (200/220cm) and Argentiere/Chamonix (45/580cm) it's snowing again following snowfall over the weekend. Courchevel (126/206cm) reported 20cm of fresh snow on Saturday adding a light layer of powder to the upper slopes.
In Switzerland, Saas-Fee (58/279cm) also received a dusting of snow over the weekend which improved slope conditions. More snow is forecast during the week.
Many Italian resorts are now closed, however the snow conditions at open resorts is great for this time of year. 25cm of fresh snow that fell on Friday at Cervinia (40/220cm) and has been well preserved by low mountain temperatures. |
