Salzburg
A winter vacation in Salzburg is more than a ski vacation.
This picturesque old city offers an extraordinary cultural experience and serves as a fantastic base for skiing more than 100 resorts throughout “Land Salzburg”.
Salzburg is listed on UNESCO’s list of world cultural heritage sites and is popular with sightseers.
One of the main perks of staying in here is the abundance of cultural events and activities. Salzburg is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The city celebrates his life in many ways. There are also excellent museums. Museum of Natural Science is in the center of the Old City.
This is a city, not a resort.
However, the surrounding area offers skiers and snowboarders just about any type of terrain. There are a number of different ski areas to explore. The Amadé Sports Region includes the resorts of Altenmark-Zauchensee, Wagrain, Filzmoos, and Kleinarl.
The Gastein Valley is home to three popular resorts:
- spa resort of Bad Gastein
- quieter town of Hofgastein
- family-oriented Dorfgastein
The Europa Sports Region includes the well-known resorts of Zell am See and Kaprun.
The Hochkönig’s Bergreich region includes the Maria Alm as well as the family resort of Dienten and the quiet, majestic Mühlbach.
These resorts are also included in the Pingauer Saalbach region along with many other resorts, the most notable of which is Saalbach-Hinterglemm. The trick to skiing Salzburg is to create your own unique ski experience, either on your own or with the help of one of the many Ski Safari packages operated by the city of Salzburg.
