Val di Fassa is a true skiing paradise. The ski areas of the valley are all part of the Dolomiti Superski area, the biggest association of ski areas all over the world. The interconnected resort system, which is located in the beautiful Trentino-Alto Adige region of the Dolomites, features nine ski areas and 80 high-capacity lifts. Val di Fassa is linked to 200 kilometers (125 miles) of ski terrain and seven villages as well as the 500 kilometers (310 miles) of the Dolomiti Superski. The unique Dolomites sceneries together with the variety of its ski slopes and a carousel of fast, modern ski-lifts have made Val di Fassa the perfect location to access this vast skiing environment.

Milan

Milan, a metropolis in Italy’s northern Lombardy region, is a global capital of fashion and design.

Milan has been interesting and vibrant at least since it was the capital of the western half of the Roman Empire. It was one of the most glorious of the Italian Comuni during the Middle Ages. It housed one of Italy’s most spectacular courts during the Renaissance. And so on. Leonardo da Vinci came from Florence looking for work and ended up staying a long time and achieving quite a lot, like many others have done since. Having always been in the thick of things, Milan is gifted with an impressive part of Italy’s heritage: it is a great city of art.

Have a look at the imposing marble Duomo, at our churches, palaces and museums. You will also be delighted by contemporary art and architecture. Countless works of art are waiting for you, and nearly all of them are within walking distance.

While you visit, let the atmosphere of Italy’s most modern and advanced city seep in. You will be captured by the elegance and style; by the energy and the international flair. An incredible shopping experience for all tastes and pockets, in a place where design and fashion have made their home.

Venice

With its historic attractions and gorgeous canals, Venice is one of Italy’s most famous attractions.

First of all, few cities can claim such priceless art and historical heritage. This is a unique city with magical, spectacular scenery. It is not just beautiful. It is a real miracle of creative genius. The city is built on mud, sand and the slime of a difficult, inhospitable landscape.

During centuries of feudalism and barbarism, the city symbolized democracy and civilization.

However, what surprises about the city, now as in the past, is its impressive building structure. It’s a city built entirely on water. For centuries, the Venetians slowly and stubbornly insisted on recovering even the smallest bit of land from the water.

From the very start, building the city was a real engineering miracle.  This is above all due not only to the skill and intelligence of its builders but also to the nature of the place itself.

Val Gardena

A vast area of connected ski slopes with stunning Dolomiti scenery.

This is an area unlike any other. The Sella Ronda is an amazing circular network of lifts and trails taking you around the spectacular Gruppo Sella- a mighty limestone massif with villages scattered around it, the biggest of them being Selva (or Selva Val Gardena / Wolkenstein, to give the resort its Sunday name and alternative German form). As well as this impressive main circuit, there are major lift systems leading off it at four main points. In overall scale, the network rivals the famed Trois Vallées in France. And the Superski lift ticket covers dozens of other resorts reachable by road. So there’s plenty to keep you busy.

The scenery is fabulous – almost a match for nearby Cortina. But the Dolomiti landscape that provides the visual drama also dictates the nature off the slopes. Sheer limestone cliffs rise out of gentle pastureland; you send your time on the latter, gazing at the former. There is scarcely a black run to be seen, and runs of more than 500m/1600ft vertical are rare, Runs of under 300m/1000ft vertical are not.

Sestriere

Built for snow – high, northwest-facing slopes and extensive snowmaking.

Sestriere lies at the heart of the Milky Way. There is a great selection of runs for all abilities that start in the town center. Also, another bonus is the modern lift system. Sestriere is a good base from which to explore the Milky Way. However, be warned, some lifts close with little warning if the wind gets up and a taxi back from France is not cheap.

The resort itself went through a bit of a makeover in the run-up to the Olympics. This was good in the long run because it meant faster lifts and more pleasing buildings. There are also some decent bars at Sestriere that provide lively entertainment!

Sestriere is between the sunny Susa and Chisone valleys.

It’s a friendly town with a mix of Italians and families coming to enjoy over 249 miles of pistes connected to the Milky Way. Sestriere was built for snow – high, with north-west-facing slopes – with extensive snowmaking. So if this corner of Italy let you down by its erratic snowfalls, you’ll be safe here.

The town is not very charming. However, it does host one mark of architectural genius: the circular hotel tower designed by Giovanni Agnelli in 1930. back then, Sestriere began its history as one of Italy’s major ski resorts. One of the best things about skiing Sestriere is that you are in Italy. Your skier’s appetite will be well satisfied by Piedmont specialties and all the Italian favorites.

With its exceptional snow coverage and variety of terrain, Sestriere guarantees a fun-filled holiday.

Winter sports enthusiast can take to the slopes to display their talents or advance their skills. Besides skiing or snowboarding, Sestriere has a variety of activities for either a fast pace or leisurely holiday that allow everyone to enjoy the pleasures of the mountains. Rent skis in Sestriere and when the skis fly off, enjoy the vivacity of the town. Be tempted by the many restaurants or splurge in the numerous boutiques or spas. Sestriere is a place to make memories if, in fact, you’re able to leave.

Turin hosted 2006 Winter Olympics and Sestriere was the site of many Olympic events.

What’s Great

  • Part of the extensive Franco-Italian Milky Way area
  • Snow reliability is usually good, with extensive snowmaking backup
  • Local slopes suitable for most levels, with some tougher runs than most neighboring resorts

Madonna di Campiglio

Nestling at an altitude of 1550 metres in the stupendous valley between the Brenta Dolomites and the glaciers of Adamello and Presanella, Madonna di Campiglio is today most certainly Italy’s number one ski resort as well as one of the most important resorts in the Alps.

The variety of its mountain surroundings mean that in winter it is possible to ski over countless kilometers of runs, up to an altitude of 2600 meters and with different degrees of difficulty. What’s more, you can set out from the center of the town and return there without ever removing your skis.

Madonna di Campiglio is famous for its high life, but just a short way out of town you will find a round of lakes, valleys, streams, malghe (alpine shepherds’ huts) and refuges.

The fifty thousand hectares of the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park, together with four hundred and fifty km of mountain paths offer incredible opportunities for those wishing to walk or mountain bike through the cool fir woods and enchanting larch forests.

Courmayeur

Courmayeur is a place where you can find all the happiness you’re looking for.

You’ll enjoy sixty miles between on and off-piste. On the perfectly groomed slopes or down virgin snow chasing after the last snowfall, on skis or a snowboard, in the presence of the highest mountain in Europe.

Throughout the winter, every day and every night, we prepare perfection for ski lovers. The Aosta Valley has given us a place of excitement and enchantment: we have prepared it in order to make a palette on which you can ski dream trajectories, tasting the speed and breathing the crystal clear air at the top of the continent..

In Courmayeur, every ability has its challenge: from the slopes where you fasten your boots for the first time to the most difficult slopes, without forgetting the immense freeriding spots. The snowmaking covers more than 70% of the area, guaranteeing, for the whole season, the chance to discover, have fun and to test yourselves. Because here, we cultivate your happiness

Courmayeur is very popular, especially at weekends, with the smart Italian set from Milan and Turin.

It’s easy to see why. It’s very easy to get to and certainly the most captivating of the Val d’Aosta resorts.

The scenery, the charm, and the nightlife are big draws.

Certainly, the slopes themselves are unlikely to be the main draw, given their limited range of difficulty, inconvenient location across the valley from the village and, particularly, their limited size.

A keen slope-basher will cover Courmayeur in a day.

The resort could make a lively week for those who want to party as much as hit the slopes.

It also appeals to those with quite different ambitions who want to explore the spectacular Mont Blanc massif with the aid of a guide and other local peaks with the aid of a helicopter.

What’s Great

  • Charming, traditional village, with car-free center and stylish shops
  • Stunning views of Mont Blanc massif
  • Pleasant range of intermediate runs
  • Comprehensive snowmaking
  • Good mountain restaurants
  • Lively, but not rowdy, après-ski
  • Good base for heliskiing

Cortina d’Ampezzo

Simply the world’s most beautiful winter playground.

Nowhere is more picturesque than chic Cortina. Furthermore, this is the most upmarket of Italian resorts. Dramatic pink-tinged peaks rise sheerly from the top of the slopes. They also give picture-postcard views from wherever you are.

Cortina’s slopes are perfect for its regular upmarket visitors from Rome and Milan. Many of them have second homes here and enjoy the strolling, shopping, people-watching and lunching as much as the odd leisurely excursion on to the slopes.

For beginners and leisurely intermediates, the splendid beginner slopes are ideal. They are long, easy and above all, well-groomed.

However, for keen slope-bashers, Cortina’s fragmented areas may not be great. However, access to the Sella Ronda and other Dolomiti Super-ski resorts is good compensation. We recommend you do that by car.

For experts, there are few tough runs, and the best of those are liable to poor snow conditions and closure because they face south.
The winter sports offering in Cortina includes the FREE DOLOMITES – certainly unlimited fun for adrenaline junkies:

  • perfect slopes for all levels and techniques
  • the most vertical black slope in the entire Dolomiti Superski area for those who want to put their skiing to the ultimate test
  • a brand new snowpark for freestyle skiers
  • the most beautiful ski-touring routes in the Dolomites
  • breathtaking off-piste skiing
  • trend sports such as snow-kiting, ice-driving, heli-skiing, ice-climbing, winter Vie Ferrate and much more

However, for fans of the Slow Life philosophy, SLOW DOLOMITES – Nature that moves you

  • interesting cross-country trails
  • magical snowshoe excursions in the fabled forests of the Ampezzo Dolomites Nature Park
  • Slow-Ski, the latest ski trend for Nature-lovers on dedicated slopes in the Faloria ski area, equipped with relaxation areas and benches where skiers can take a break and enjoy the Dolomite panorama.

What’s Great

  • Magnificent Dolomite scenery because they are perhaps the most dramatic of any winter resort
  • Marvelous beginner slopes and good long cruising runs, ideal for nervous intermediates
  • Access to the vast area. Dolomite Super ski pass covers it
  • Attractive, although rather towny, resort, with lots of upmarket shops
  • Good off-slope facilities
  • Remarkably uncrowded slopes

Breuil Cervinia

High-altitude, snow-sure skiing on the Italian side of Zermatt.

What brings people to Breuil Cervinia (as the resort now styles itself) in winter in the 20th century? It’s altitude. Altitude’s what brought climbers to the original village of Breuil in the 19th century. For climbers, it was a launch pad for assaults on the nearby Matterhorn (Monte Cervino).

This resort an unusual combination: slopes that are gentle and extensive, sunny and snow sure.

It’s great for cruisers who like to cover the miles on flattering slopes with no worries about unexpected challenges. There is nowhere like it. However, experts should steer clear. They’ll find the slopes of Cervinia tame. In addition to that, the link with Zermatt is disappointing because it doesn’t access Zermatt’s best slopes.

What’s Great

  • Extensive mountain with miles of long, consistently gentle runs, usually with excellent snow
  • High, sunny and snow-sure slopes amid impressive scenery
  • Link with Zermatt in Switzerland provides some spectacular views and good lunches

Bormio

Charming medieval town center, unlike any other resort.

If you like cobbled medieval Italian towns and don’t mind a lack of Alpine resort atmosphere, you’ll find the center of Bormio very appealing – though you’re unlikely to be staying there. The slopes, too, suit a rather specific and perhaps rather uncommon breed of visitor: you need to enjoy red runs and very little else, but you need to be happy with a limited range of them – unless, that is, you’re prepared to take the free bus out to the Val di Dentro-San Colombano area or make longer outings, to Santa Caterina or (further still) Livigno.

Bormio attracts some boarders, but it has no special appeal. The slopes are too steep to make first-time boarding enjoyable, and apart from some good long carving runs, there’s little to attract experienced boarders either: no park or pipe; limited off-piste potential, little enthusiasm from the ski schools to teach boarding; and a mainly skier orientation on the slopes. At least the main area’s lifts are mostly chairs, gondolas or cable-cars – though there are some drags. Nightlife is sedate and really gets going only at the weekend.

Bormio was to host the Alpine skiing World Championship in 2005, 20 years after it first staged them.

What’s Great

  • Good mix of high, snowsure pistes and woodland runs with artificial snow, giving some excellent long runs when conditions are right
  • Worthwhile neighboring resorts on the Valtellina lift pass
  • Attractive medieval town center – quite unlike any other winter resort
  • Good mountain restaurants
